Hadith 3

Unknown

Salam alaekun warahmatullah wabarahkatuh

I bear witness that there is no one worthy of worship except Allah (swt) and that Mohammed is his Slave and messenger

Today, we will be taking a quick review of hadith No 3 In shaa Allah

Hadith 3: Pillars of Islam
Ibn Umar reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and
blessings be upon him, said:
Islam is built upon five: to worship Allah and to
disbelieve in what is worshiped besides him, to establish
prayer, to give charity, to perform Hajj pilgrimage to the House, and to fast the month of Ramadan.

This hadith has been said to be part of hadith no 2 discussed yesterday  but it is repeated again because it stresses the fundamental aspects of outward submission to Allah based on the the 5 pillars of Islam to lay a solid foundation

They are;

1. The shahadah is the first pillar and the most essential part of Islam without which a person cannot be said to be a Muslim. It is testifying that there is no diety worthy of worship except Allah and that mohammed  (SAW) is the messanger of Allah. We must worship Allah with sincerity,  certainty, love, truthfulness,  knowledge and of course with total submission.  We must also carry out our deeds in accordance to the way and manner prescribed by the prophet.

2. Salah just doesn't mean the routine exercise of bowing and prostrating,  it involves performing wudu properly, performing salah at its right time and if possible in congregation in total submission with humility in accordance with  the directives of the prophet (SAW).

3. Zakat means both purification and growth. Allah has made it obligatory on the Muslims to pay a certain amount  (2.5%) in zakah when their wealth exceeds a minimum amount  (nisab) and a year has passed since that amount has been accumulated.  It is generally measured using 85g of gold or 595g of silver or its equivalent.  This portion of the wealth is given to the needy in the society to reduce poverty amongst the ummah.

4. Pilgrimage to the House of Allah (kaabah ) is an obligation we need to do only once (according to majority of the schorlars) in our life time. It should be done as soon as a person is financially, physically and mentally able to do so with the sole intention of obeying Allah and his Rasul.

5. Fasting in the month of Ramadan is an opportunity for muslim once in a year to restrain themselves for a specified period of time from their worldly desires and totally submit themselves to Almighty Allah in order to gain enormous rewards and have their sins forgiven.

In conclusion,  we cannot remind ouelrselves enough of these basic 5 pillars of islam as they are the foundation of our deen. Also, the pillars of Islam have rulings,  conditions and mannerisms attached to them and it is important that we know them and remind ourselves from time to time in order to gain maximum rewards for our deeds both in this world and in the hereafter.

Jazalallahukhairan for your time and patience. Asalam alaekun warahmatullah wabarahkatuh.
